Beverley Musical Theatre (formerly Beverley Operatic Society) perform Musical Shows, Pantomimes and concerts in Beverley, Hull and the surrounding villages. The East Riding of Yorkshire is fortunate (or unfortunate?) in having a large number of amateur operatic and dramatic societies. This means that competition for the attentions of the theatre-going public is intense, and consequently the standard of the performances is very good.
Beverley Musical Theatre is no exception. Based largely in Beverley itself, the society performs at various locations including the New Theatre in Hull, the Beverley Memorial Hall, the Middleton Hall at Hull University and the Longcroft School Hall in Beverley. A recent departure, however, has been to go 'on tour' with a series of concerts in surrounding villages, featuring a wide variety of songs from the shows as well as songs which we just like! There may be any number of concerts in a year, but generally we perform one main musical show in May/June and a pantomime in November/December.
Our Junior section "Off Shoots" which is for children aged from 7 to 16, are also regularly performing at various venues in and around Beverley.
The company also enjoys a lively social programme including our Annual Dinner, barbecues, barn dances, theatre trips, treasure hunts and of course the usual parties (any excuse!). There's always plenty to do even when we're not rehearsing for shows.
We are currently researching the Company's history, especially the pre-war productions, and will post this information shortly.
