This
was quite a departure for Beverley, being the first Gilbert &
Sullivan to be staged by the society in 33 years. Those of you
familiar with the Broadway version will know that it is somewhat
of a send up of the original, disliked by the purists and loved
by everyone else. The society put on a lively and colourful
production full of energy and surprises. The show also boasted
two stars in the making, Samantha Young (Mabel) and Neil Stones
(Frederick) who now regularly perform leading roles in West End
musicals such as Les Miserables and Miss Saigon.
This photograph shows the kidnapping of Miss Hull Daily Mail which was one of many publicity stunts that contributed to the success of the show.
